By this time, you have likely heard the CrossFit Open mentioned a few times throughout the gym. But what exactly is the CrossFit Open? And why should you consider signing up?

What is the crossfit open
The CrossFit Open is a worldwide online event that will take place right at your local gym. CrossFit members from around the globe will participate in a weekly workout programing by CrossFit. For three weeks, members will submit their scores for these weekly workouts and be able to compare themselves to all Crossfitters participating in the Open.
No matter your skill level, there will be a division for you in the Open.

You can compete as an Rx, Scaled, or Foundational athlete. No matter your skill level, the Open is a great test of fitness.
Why do the open
The Open is not just for top athletes or those who have been doing CrossFit for a number of years. The Open is for everyone – it is a way to step outside your comfort zone, track your progress, and be part of your community. Even if you are just a few weeks into your CrossFit journey, consider signing up as a way to see improvement in the coming years.
Even if you have no plans of being a competitive athlete, you should consider signing up for the Open. The workouts will be programmed for our daily workout at the gym, giving you an option to complete it at any class time. While you can compare your times to others, ultimately, the Open is a way to test you against you.
Putting yourself out there to compete in the Open goes a long way in fostering mental resilience. It will cause you to push a little harder than you otherwise would in a workout. It also puts you in a vulnerable position, as all competition does. And that is not a bad thing. It allows for growth and transfers to many other areas of life. While it may be uncomfortable in the moment, it will make you stronger, both mentally and physically.
Another aspect of the Open is the community. Every Friday evening during the Open, starting at 5:30, CrossFit Billings will be hosting Friday Night Throwdowns. During these throwdowns, we will run heats of athletes through the Open workout. We will review each workout and set up a fun environment for you to complete the workout alongside other members.
On the second week of the Open, we will host a party after the workouts.
These throwdowns are a time for all gym members to come together. We will see members accomplish goals they’ve set for themselves and others overcome difficult parts of a workout.
But even if you can not make these throwdowns, you can participate in the CrossFit open by signing up and coming to any group classes on the Fridays throughout the open. Again, these are great opportunities to test yourself and your fitness, and it will give you some goals to strive for in the coming years. The Open is hard, but it is hard in a way that allows us to challenge ourselves.
